New Features in Autodesk 3ds Max 2020

Autodesk recently released the latest version of 3ds MAX: 3ds MAX 2020. Following are some enhancements and updates:

Chamfer Modifier Improvement:

• Fixed weight chamfer for consistent chamfer width

• Weighted chamfer allows chamfer to be controlled on per edge basis

• End Point bias that has the ability to move the endpoint towards the next edge

• Depth parameter varies in-between values 1 to -0.5 that helps to create a rounded edge, straight edge, and inverted curve chamfer profiles

• Presets can be created to save default and customized settings

Revit Import Improvement:

• New Combine By option in the Import Settings dialogue box allows combining multiple objects at the time of importing Revit files.
• You can also import Revit 2017, 2018, 2019 files into 3ds Max 2020 without upgrading them.

OSL Maps (Open Shading Language)

Improvement in 3ds Max 2020, New shaders added like

• Colourspace: Converts RGB/HSV/YIQ/XYZ/XYY
• Falloff: Generates a value from white to black based on the angular fall off of the
  face normals.
• Tri-tone (color): Color corrects an input color using highlights/mid-tones/shadows
• Colorkey:  Used for rough green/blue screen keying. Also, can do simple edge cutoffs in UV space and apply a garbage mask if required and so on.

Preview Animation

Preview animation allows you to test your animation and make sure that everything is working properly before the final render.

• 1.5-3 times faster Preview animation creation on local drives.
• Output file name matches the 3ds max scene.
• By default, high quality (100% output resolution) is now on in Per-View presets drop-down.
• Default the quality setting changed from 16 to 1 in Image Quality drop-down and its upper value is limited to 20.

Enhancements in 3ds Max 2020.1 update

Hotkey Editor:

Using the new Hotkey Editor, it is easy to view and change existing keyboard shortcuts as well as save and load custom hotkey sets.

Top 5 Enhancements In Autocad 2020

AutoCAD 2020 provides a set of enhancements based on customer feedback, surveys,

and analytic data. The new version of AutoCAD (AutoCAD 2020) is released with
new features and enhancements. Top 5 noticeable changes in the 2020 version are
described next:

1. New Dark Theme

   User interface is something that we use all the time. Autodesk needs to make significant changes to improve the clarity and crispness of the dark theme depending on past customer feedback. Similar change was also applied to the light theme as well.
   
   
   
   As we can see, in AutoCAD 2020 the background colors with the icon colors was
   optimized to provide the optimum contrast without distracting from the drawing area,
   where we generally focus while working on software.

2. Measure Tool

   We can use the live measure tool just by moving the cursor. AutoCAD will show the live
   
   
   
   measurement between the nearest geometry according to the cursor position.
   

3. New Block Palette

   The new Blocks palette makes it easier to insert blocks with visual galleries and the ability to filter for the exact block that we require. The primary reason for redesigning the Insert dialog box is to provide better visual previews of blocks in the workflow for inserting blocks.
   
   
   The palette increases efficiency for finding and inserting multiple blocks-including the new Repeat Placement option, which can save a step. We can use CLASSICINSERT command,if we prefer to use the old dialog box.

4. Purge Command Improvement

   The Purge feature has been revised for easier drawing cleanup and organization. The control options are almost the same, but the orientation is more efficient and the Preview area can be resized.
   
   
   This enhancement also helps us to find the object and gives better description on non-purgeable items. It tells us how many items on the drawing, on which layer, and it also tells us in which block it is for a nested block.
   
   

5. DWG Compare

   DWG compare was introduced by Autodesk on AutoCAD 2019. We can now directly compare and edit the current drawing together with a specified drawing while in the compare state. The comparison takes place in the current drawing.
   
   
   Any changes that we make in either the current drawing or the compared drawing are dynamically compared and highlighted. Additional to this, a new DWG Compare panel shows some frequently used tools like On/Off which activates/deactivates the changes in the drawing.

Here are some new features that are added to AutoCAD 2019 subscription package:

The Drawing Compare Tool:
During the design process, we always need to modify our drawings. We can have numerous revisions until the design is finished. Sometimes we need to compare and look what the differences between two revisions are Prior to AutoCAD 2019, you need to download and install DWG Compare from Autodesk App Store. This add-in is provided for free by Autodesk. Now in AutoCAD 2019, this tool is available in the software itself.

The new DWG Compare tools in AutoCAD 2019 enable you to easily identify differences between two revisions of any drawing. This is particularly helpful for quickly viewing changes, identifying clashes, reviewing constructability, and more. Let’s see what this looks like in practice by considering these two versions of a floor plan. What’s different between them? The change is small, but critical.

When you use the DWG Compare functionality, this is what you can see:

The green and red graphics highlight the differences between the first version of the drawing (green) and the second version (red). All unchanged elements are shown in grey. Having displayed this important difference, you can adjust the positions of the cubicles adjacent to this exit stair to maintain the required clearance.

Enhancements to Share Design Views. 

The Shared Views feature makes it easier for you to share your designs with internal and external stakeholders without releasing your original drawing files. You don’t have to publish DWF or PDF files and then email them anymore; instead, when you use this new feature, views and data are extracted from your drawing, stored in the cloud, and a shareable link is generated that allows the design to be viewed in a browser and commented on from any web enabled desktop, tablet, or mobile device.

AutoCAD Web and Mobile apps. Rather than an enhancement to AutoCAD for your desktop, these are adjunct tools that facilitate DWG editing on web browsers and mobile devices.

2D Graphics Performance Updates. Functions usually requiring redraw or regen such as draw order, zooming, panning, layer properties, or displaying raster/PDF overlays are reported to work two times faster.
