TIET initiative to bridge the gap between Academics and Industry through Skill Development

TIET initiative to bridge the gap between Academics and Industry through Skill Development

Introduction

The shortage of appropriately skilled professionals across many industries is emerging as a significant and complex challenge to India's growth and future. According to NASSCOM, each year over 3 million graduates and post-graduates are added to the Indian workforce. However, of these only 25 percent of technical graduates and 10-15 percent of other graduates are considered employable by the rapidly growing Manufacturing / Infrastructure development /IT and ITES segments. Hence, we can clearly witness the growing skills gap, reflecting the fragile availability of high-quality college education in India and the soaring pace of the country's service-driven economy, which is growing faster than most countries in the world. As businesses propose to double and triple their workforces and India Inc. strives to maintain its position in the global marketplace, it has become imperative to prepare and plan for a world-class, competent, talented, and innovative workforce.

CAD/CAM/CAE Awareness Program for Academics

We have witnessed the last century electronic technology revolution, and CAD/CAM/CAE has
been at the forefront of these technologies, in addition to computer and various electronic control media which penetrated in various walks of our life. Using these software packages, the products are designed and manufactured better, cheaper, and faster. This has in turn affected the competitive environment drastically.

Computer-Aided Design/Engineering (CAD/CAE)

CAD allows designers to visualize precise geometric shape from all angles as well as analyze the strength and stress of the material to be used. Through the use of design data stored in memory, users can obtain printed copies of the drawings and specifications related to any part or product quickly. It lowers the cost incurred in creating and improving the quality of design and products after manufacturing. CAD systems strengthen the communication and stimulate innovation in multi-functional design teams to improve every stage of product design. It facilitates better coordination between the designer and vendor through electronic communication between them through the visible screens.

Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM)

The computer aided manufacturing includes calculators control over the manufacturing processes, for example in the calculation of tool movements and cutting speeds. CAM has an advantage on traditional manufacturing concepts in many ways, especially when a product is manufactured according to the several requirements of a changing design. Each machine in the CAM system has the ability to choose and deal with a number of tools and according to the instructions programmed. This provides a high degree of flexibility in the implementation of manufacturing processes and control.

Currently researchers are working on a concept of innovation wherein clothes will be manufactured specifically according to the customer's requirements. This includes the concept of scanning the body of the customer by machine operated calculator so as to cut cloth which can fit his body completely. In this way, the (CAD / CAM) systems integrate design with the manufacturing processes by turning the final specifications of the design to detailed instructions for the machine for the purpose of manufacturing of any substance.

In the wake of the need of promoting CAD/CAM/CAE technologies, TIET-Tickoo Institute of Emerging Technologies (Gurgaon and Karol bag), has recently initiated a campaign, Awareness Program, at various academic institutions in North India. The objective of this program is to educate the students of mechanical Engineering (undergoing B.Tech. courses) about the need of CAD/CAM/CAE technology in the manufacturing industry or product industry.

This program was conducted at the Delhi Technical Campus on 13thOct, 2015 for the students of 3rd Year and 4th Year (B. Tech. course). The key speakers of this workshop were Mr. Avijeet Suryavanshi (TIET - Gurgaon, Author and CAD/CAE Technology Specialist) and Mr. Dharmendra Singh (TIET- Karol bag, CAD/CAM Technology Specialist). Various features of CAD/CAM/CAE and its principles were also discussed in the workshop. The Dean of the Engineering Dept., Faculties of Mechanical Engineering, and 50-60 Students of B.Tech. (3rd Year and 4th Year) attended the program. The program was well appreciated and the students revealed keen interest in learning the CAD/CAM/CAE technology while pursuing their B. Tech. course. TIET speakers also gave a presentation on SOLIDWORKS and ANSYS software packages and discussed about the applications and productivity of these tools. TIET will soon conduct a Boot Camp and Design Competition for the Mechanical Engineering students in the campus to motivate the students to learn this technology.

BIM Awareness Program for Academics

School of Architecture and Planning
K.R Mangalam University, Gurgaon
9th November, 2015

The last decade has seen a tremendous rise in object oriented and parametric modeling technology. This rapid rise has generated interest in the academic world and the architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry for this technology. Several construction firms have realized the potential of growth by using this technology, and have already started their own building information modeling divisions. As such, the academic world has started realizing the need to capture this technology to further aid and enrich the learning process and, at the same time, cater to the needs of the industry of producing quality students ready to take on this new challenge.

TIET-Alerion conduct workshop on Bentley Staad Pro for faculty

National Institute of Technical Teachers Training (Chandigarh): 16th-20th November 2015

The need of technology for any work in today's world has become inevitable. As such, to keep pace with the changes in the technology has become a challenge for each one of us. The academics in India, of late, have realized that there exists a gap between what is taught in the institutions and what is required in the industry. This gap can be filled by the adoption of technology in the curriculum. With this perspective, various institutions at National level have initiated short programs to train their faculty in various subjects of emerging technologies of their domain.
